Be More Appreciative. “How do I motivate my team to perform better?” is one of the most comment questions I hear from new managers. In the most simple terms, you have two main tools to enhance motivation: the carrot and the stick. Unfortunately, too many managers overuse coercion and underuse incentives. A simple (and authentic) “please” and “thank you” and public recognition of a person’s efforts go a long way to help enhance motivation.
