Wait, what language do robots speak? If you’ve applied for a job at any time over the past decade, you’ve most likely submitted your resume to an Applicant Tracking System (ATS), those dreaded computer programs that many employers use to narrow down the application pool to the most qualified candidates. There are dozens of ATS programs in use today and their algorithms are increasingly complex, so don’t try to out-maneuver them with lists of random keywords. Instead, focus on demonstrating your knowledge, skills, abilities and impact of your work in a way that will best meet the employer’s needs. Whenever possible, find ways to get around the robots to speak to a human being one-on-one.
